Millions of tonnes of scrap steel are produced each year, which could potentially be contaminated by radioactive sources. EMRP project Ionising radiation metrology for the metallurgical industry (IND04 MetroMetal) will produce new reference materials, methods and devices to improve the detection of radioactivity in scrap loads - reducing human health risks, trade disputes and environmental exposure across Europe.
IND04 JRP-Partners will be presenting the results of the JRP at the 2nd International Symposium on the System of Radiological Protection (ICRP 2013). ICRP 2013 will build upon the success of the first symposium in 2011 and will be held in conjunction with the next biennial joint meetings of the ICRP Main Commission and Committees
