A two-day workshop was held in Heidelberg, Germany, on the topic of exposure and dose for therapeutic ultrasound: 37 experts from 26 institutions in 9 countries participated. The workshop was part of the EMRP project Dosimetry for Ultrasound Therapy (HLT03 DUTy).
The workshop started with invited talks and an open discussion on 'Parameters for in situ exposure'. The second day was structured in four discussion sessions: 'Dose concepts related to thermal effects'; 'Dose concepts related to non-thermal effects'; 'Benefits and drawbacks of a dose concept for different stakeholders'; and 'Collection of existing and new dose definitions'.
JRP HLT03 DUTy recently started and will greatly benefit from input from the workshop for developing the metrology necessary to underpin traceable determination of exposure and dose for therapeutic ultrasound. Papers written by participants at the workshop will be available on the JRP website.
