EMRP project Metrology for Energy Harvesting (ENG02 Harvesting) will develop sources of sustainable energy from human activity and natural processes. The harvesting and utilisation of a small fraction of energy wasted as heat and vibration from human and environmental processes could contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions. This project aims to develop new technologies, devices and measurement methods that enable the exploitation of waste energy to provide small, but reliable and sustainable, sources of power.
ENG02 JRP-Partners NPL and PTB will be presenting a masterclass workshop at Energy Harvesting and Storage Europe 2013 in Berlin in April. The Masterclass is being developed in association with IDTechEx and aims to give industry specialists a much needed grounding in metrology to underpin the development of new materials and devices with increased energy output. It’s also an opportunity for the JRP-Partners to engage with relevant end-users. NPL’s Dr Paul Weaver will present a module on piezoelectrics and PTB’s Dr Ernst Lenz will look at thermoelectric energy harvesting from a metrological point of view.
