The 7th ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) Security Workshop, organised by ETSI in Sophia Antipolis, France, took place on 18-19 January 2012. The event focused on security standards and efforts to produce them. It also provided professional networking and directions for future work in security standardisation.
At the ETSI workshop, results were presented from the EMRP project Metrology for industrial quantum communications (IND06), which is developing measurement techniques to validate the practical use of a security technology known as quantum key distribution (QKD). QKD, when implemented correctly, can guarantee that the encryption key has not been intercepted, but there are no agreed methods to demonstrate that practical implementations are robust.
