Objective
The objective of the training is to train the participants on theory and practice of calibration of long gauge blocks (LGB) (125 mm to 500 mm) by mechanical comparison and calibration of measuring tapes and rulers.
The course will comprise a mixture of approximately 2,5 days of formal lectures and 1,5 days of practical sessions.
Who should attend
Length metrology staff from EURAMET NMI and DIs who are less experienced in calibration of long gauge blocks and measuring tapes and rulers. Participants are expected to have basic knowledge of length measurements.
Programme outline
Day 1
Overview of international metrology with focus on length metrology
Traceability in length measurements
Introduction to measuring tapes and rulers
Calibration procedure of measuring tapes and rulers
Error sources and uncertainty for tape measurements
Day 2
Calibration of measuring tapes and rulers using BMG 2000 length measuring device (laboratory)
Uncertainty calculations for calibration of measuring tapes and rulers
Drafting the calibration certificate
Interlaboratory comparisons for measuring tapes and rulers
Day 3
Fundamental principles of dimensional measurements
Calibration of gauge blocks by mechanical comparisons
Calibration of LGB: Uncertainty values in CMCs
