Millions of tonnes of scrap steel are produced each year, which could potentially be contaminated by radioactive sources. EMRP project ‘Ionising radiation metrology for the metallurgical industry’ (IND04 MetroMetal) will produce new reference materials, methods and devices to improve the detection of radioactivity in scrap loads - reducing human health risks, trade disputes and environmental exposure across Europe.
IND04 JRP-Partners will be presenting the results of the JRP at the 19th International Conference on Radionuclide Metrology and its Applications (ICRM 2013). The goal of ICRM 2013 is to provide an opportunity for the exchange of information on the development of techniques and new applications of radionuclide metrology, and to encourage international co-operation in this field.
