The 7th international Gas Analysis Symposium & Exhibition (GAS2013) is organised by NEN (the Netherlands Standardization Institute) and ISO/TC 158 'Analysis of gases'. It is a three-day symposium that provides a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and collect information on market and research developments in the field of gas analysis. At the symposium, the results from a variety of EMRP projects will be presented, including:
‘Characterisation of Energy Gases’ (ENG01 Gas), which aims to enable alternative and renewable gaseous fuels to be used in the European gas pipeline system. The project will test the suitability of current standards of measurement for natural gas for measuring the properties of alternative gases, such as biogas. Important measurements include gas composition, calorific value (energy content) and humidity, which are all needed to ensure efficient trade, safe use and transportation.
'Metrology for Chemical Pollutants in Air' (ENV01 MACPoll), which aims to support the development of EU Air Quality legislation by improving indoor and outdoor air quality measurements. This project will develop methods to provide stable reference samples for calibrating instruments, new measurement methods to detect volatile, highly reactive gases and a reliable, compact nitrogen dioxide microsensor.
‘Emerging requirements for measuring pollutants from automotive exhaust emissions’ (ENV02 PartEmission), which will build expertise in measuring small particle pollutants, particularly platinum group elements (PGE) and mercury, and will increase the required accuracy and reliability of measurements to support the development of future regulations.
