Introduction
The European Metrology Network (EMN) for Climate and Ocean Observation has the objective of creating a sustainable structure in support of climate and ocean observation, which is an area of strategic importance for the future of European metrology. Until now there has been no single recognisable entity that represents the metrology community in discussions on the metrology challenges associated with measuring the Global Climate Observing System’s (GCOS) Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) and the Global Ocean Observation System’s (GOOS) Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs). Therefore, EURAMET created the European Metrology Network (EMN) for Climate and Ocean Observation. The EMN aims to engage with stakeholders and stakeholder organisations, such as the European Union’s Copernicus Environmental Information Services and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) to maximise the impact of metrology R&D activities. The EMN will bring together the metrology community in Europe in response to that stakeholder engagement to create and disseminate knowledge, gaining and build coordinated infrastructure.
This event is the first Annual General Meeting of the newly-formed EMN for Climate and Ocean Observation. Its associated Joint Network Project will have its kick-off prior to the EMN meeting on the morning of the 20 June. The EMN meeting will be from 14:00h on 20 June until 16:30h on 21 June. A lunch will be served from 12:30h on the 20 June. An evening meal at own expense will be organised for 18:30h on the 20 June.
