EMRP project Metrology for processing materials with high natural radioactivity (IND57 MetroNORM) will develop new methods and devices for the measurement of naturally occurring radionuclides as well as new reference materials for their calibration. Natural radioactivity is present everywhere in low concentrations. In industries dealing with thousands of tonnes of materials, the radioactive elements accumulate in certain places (like inside tubes or on special filters) or in certain materials like slag or fume dust. This is called NORM, Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials
The project consortium is organising a stakeholder workshop to present the main outcomes of the project. This can help regulators to come up with realistic regulations and industries to invest in the most suitable type of measurement equipment.
