Thursday, 4 November 2021; 10:00 - 15:30 CET
Joint event of EMN TraceLabMed & TC-MC
The registration is closed.
Registration closes on 2 November 2021. Participation is free of charge.
The meeting will be held online using MS Teams. The link for the workshop will be sent to your registered email a few days prior to the event.
The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 posed significant challenges for healthcare systems around the world. A first, rapid response to this challenge required establishing large scale testing to understand and contain COVID-19. Test results are part of the data that governments use to decide on measures to fight the pandemic with various impacts on societies and economies. Long term containment of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and their impact on society require the development of vaccines and therapeutics. Metrological tools such as biological standards, reference measurement procedures and reference materials are needed to underpin the effective use of diagnostics and to support the overall response to infectious diseases, including vaccines and therapies.
This workshop is thus focussed on measurement challenges related to SARS-CoV-2 and future pandemics to feed into collaborative research projects:
- Which reference materials and biological standards are needed and what are the associated challenges?
- Which services (e.g. reference measurements) could support the overall response to infectious diseases?
- How can metrology contribute to the characterisation of safe and effective vaccines and therapeutics?
In the first part of the workshop, stakeholders will present their work with a view to related measurement challenges. In the second part, metrology institutes will discuss their ideas and potential contributions.
Please have a look at the agenda for the detailed programme >>
Who should attend?
The workshop is designed for stakeholders:
- that work or rely on measurements of SARS-CoV-2 (e.g. medical laboratories, clinicians)
- involved in the quality infrastructure (e.g. accreditation, standardisation)
- contributing to the response to infectious diseases (e.g. vaccine manufacturers, testing laboratories)
It will provide you with an opportunity to share your vision and your experience to shape the future of a metrology-based quality infrastructure network and to join and/or form research consortia for the Health Call 2022.
Background
EURAMET will issue a call on ‘Metrology for Health’ at the beginning of 2022 within the proposed European Partnership on Metrology. In preparation for the call, EURAMET’s European Metrology Network on Traceability in Laboratory Medicine (EMN TraceLabMed) and the Technical Committee for Metrology in Chemistry (TC-MC) are organising a workshop. It aims to bring together stakeholders around laboratory medicine, including international experts in academia, industry, medicine and the measurement community.
The scope of the proposed Partnership’s Health Call is aligned with Horizon Europe aiming at improving and protecting health by generating knowledge and developing innovative solutions to prevent, diagnose and monitor diseases.
Based on the discussions and ideas, stakeholders and metrology institutes may prepare Potential Research Topics at stage 1 and may form research consortia for stage 2 of the Health Call 2022 to contribute to pandemic preparedness and to unlock the potential of faster innovation.
