Recent Advances in the Analysis of Complex Environmental Matrices

The European Water Framework Directive aims to improve European water resources by the year 2015. EMRP project Traceable measurements for monitoring critical pollutants under the European Water Framework Directive (ENV08 WFD), will support the Directive by developing reliable reference standards, as close as possible to real-world water samples. The reference standards will be for some of the most important water pollutants previously identified as having a lack of measurement standardisation, e.g. tributyltin (TBT), polybrominated diphenylether (PBDE) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH).

Recent Advances in the Analysis of Complex Environmental Matrices is a one day meeting at the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London that aims to cover the developments in analytical instrumentation which now make it possible to simultaneously analyse numerous pollutants in complex environmental matrices with minimal sample clean-up. ENV08 JRP-Partner LGC will be speaking at the meeting on ‘GC-ICP-MS reference methodology to quantify polybrominated flame retardants in environmental waters relevant to the European Water Frame Directive.’
