EURAMET’s TC for Mass and Related Quantities has a new chair: Mikolaj Wozniak
At EURAMET’s 2025 General Assembly, Mikolaj Wozniak (RISE, Sweden) commenced his first term as chair of the Technical Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (TC-M).
Mikolaj began his career in 2008 at the Polish Metrological Institute (GUM), specialising in force and torque metrology. Since 2017, he has worked at RISE, initially in the pressure measurement laboratory and, since 2021, in the force and torque laboratory.
His expertise spans maintaining and developing measurement standards, performing and analysing measurements, advancing measurement methods, and contributing to national and international comparisons, research, and development projects. “I’m no stranger to educational activities such as training and workshops, particularly in the technical areas I work in”, he notes.
Beyond laboratory work, Mikolaj has served as a technical auditor and contributed to standardisation processes within ISO and SIS, the Swedish Institute for Standards. International cooperation has long been central to his career, with active involvement in BIPM, EURAMET, and IMEKO. “If I had to pinpoint one of my professional achievements, becoming EURAMET TC-M Chair is certainly among the most important,” he adds.
TC-M is a large committee, comprising six subcommittees, two working groups, and around thirty ongoing projects. As chair, Mikolaj emphasises that effective communication, cooperation, and coordination are essential. “Even before taking office, I set myself the goal of managing the committee’s work efficiently, though I now realise this is no easy task,” he reflects.
His specific priorities include strengthening training, mentoring, and capacity building, developing strategies for planning, managing, and conducting comparisons across TC-M disciplines, completing updates to roadmaps and guides currently under revision, coordinating and supporting R&D project calls and improving the structure of the committee’s shared online workspace.
Looking ahead, a new working group on dynamic measurements of mechanical quantities is expected to be formalised in early 2026. This will coincide with a dedicated workshop, scheduled for 3 to 4 March 2026 at RISE.
Although experienced in coordinating committees and projects, Mikolaj acknowledges that many responsibilities as TC Chair are new. To prepare, he spent several months observing and assisting his predecessor, Zoltan Zelenka (BEV, Austria), to whom he extends his gratitude for ongoing support.
Balancing the chair role with his institute duties is demanding. “Finding balance, adapting, and developing a routine is challenging. However, I am an optimist by nature, and I think I will manage it,” he concludes.
EURAMET wishes Mikolaj every success in his new role and extends its sincere thanks to his predecessor, Zoltan Zelenka, who held the position from 2021 to 2025.
