Peer review of the Electrical Laboratory of the National Metrology Laboratory, Enterprise Ireland, Dublin

Project Description

A peer review of the Electrical Laboratory of NML, in accordane with document CIPM 2007-25, will be carried out by technical experts from METAS and PTB, covering the fields DC voltage, DC current, resistance, AC voltage, AC current, capacitance and inductance. The review is intended to support the existing CMCs of the NML, (published in Appendix C of the CIPM-MRA) as well as some revised CMCs which will be submitted by NML during 2008.
The following aspects of the laboratory's operation will be assessed:

  • Qualifications and technical capabilities of staff ordinarily performing the services, and their supervisors
  • Control and monitoring of environmental conditions
  • Calibration and measurement methods, uncertainty estimations and method validation.
  • Suitability of equipment and equipment maintenance programs
  • Measurement traceability
  • Methods used for assuring the quality of measurements and calibrations
  •  Content and format of calibration / measurement reports
  • Technical records that demonstrate that the claimed uncertainties have been ordinarily achieved.

The review outcomes will be documented in a report.

Final Report 2009-02-16

A peer review of the Electrical Laboratory of NML, in accordance with document CIPM 2007-25, was carried out by Dr Beat Jeckelmann (METAS) and Dr Hans Bachmair (PTB) on 15 Oct 2008. The review covered the fields DC voltage, current, and resistance, AC voltage and current, DC and AC high voltage, capacitance, inductance and phase.
The following aspects of the laboratory’s operation were assessed:

  • Qualifications and technical capabilities of staff ordinarily performing the services, and  their supervisors
  • Control and monitoring of environmental conditions
  • Calibration and measurement methods, uncertainty estimations and method validation

The review outcomes were documented in a report, issued on 2 Dec 2008.
