Establishing and checking international comparability in calorimetry
Project Description
The aim of the project is to establish comparability between France and Germany in a specific area of calorimetry by performing a bilateral comparison on the enthalpy of fusion of some pure metals (foremost Indium, but also Gallium, Tin, Bismuth, Aluminium or others, depending on mutual measurement capabilities) which are especially suited for calibration of the wide-spread (commercial) Differential Scanning Calorimeters (DSCs). The project is open to other members of Euromet who have the interest, the expertise and the equiment to participate.
Final Report 2016-02-04
Directly connected to this research project, LNE has published three papers and one book on the construction and performance of their calorimeter:
1) Refat Razouk, Bruno Hay, Marc Himbert: Uncertainty assessment of enthalpy of fusion measurements performed by using an improved Calvet carlorimeter. Metrologia 52 (2015) 717-729; 2) Refat Razouk, Bruno Hay, Marc Himbert: A new in situ electrical calibration system for high temperature Calvet calorimeters. Review of Scientific Instruments 84, 094903 (2013); doi: 10.1063/1.4821876.
3) Qualification of a heat-flux calorimeter for accurate measurements of the enthalpy of fusion up to 1 000 ◦C, Refat Razouk, Bruno Hay, Jacques Hammeury, Marc Himbert, (in french) Revue française de métrologie, n° 38, Vol. 2015-2, 25-32,doi: 10.1051/rfm/2015008.
4) Mise en place de références métrologiques en enthalpie de fusion. Vers une référence nationale en enthalpie de fusion et capacité thermique massique des solides. Refat Razouk, 2015, (in french) Presses Académiques Francophones (Verlag), ISBN 978-3-8416-3318-7.
The announced joint LNE/PTB scientific paper has been drafted. It is expected that the manuscript will be finished and submitted to either Metrologia, Review of Scientific Instruments or another journal dedicated to calorimetry or the like.
