Exchange of experience in gauge blocks and material measures of length measurements
Project Description
Consultation will be performed during a visit to the Length Laboratory of NML-Enterprise Ireland.
The following topics will be discussed:
- calibration of gauge blocks (by optical interferometry and mechanical method)
- calibration (verification) of material measures of length
- measuring instruments used in the abouve measurements
- uncertainty evaluation.
Final Report 2002-06-15
Consultations were performed during the visit of representative of GUM in NML-Enterprise Ireland.
- 1. Methods of calibration of gauge blocks by mechanical comparison with TESA UPC comparator (0,5 to 100 mm) and with Federal comparator (125 to 600 mm) were discussed. The case of similar and dissimilar materials were studied. The method of measurement of elastic deformation correction was presented. The components of uncertainty budget were studied
- 2. Methods of calibration of gauge blocks by optical interferometry from 0,5 mm to 100 mm with Hilger-Watts (NML) and Kösters (GUM) interferometers were discussed in detail e. g. computer analysis of fringe pattern image, measurements of temperature, pressure and humidity in the interferometers and uncertainty evaluation
- 3. Exchange of experience in calibration of material measures of length was carried out. Construction of 50 m bench of GUM was presented
- 4. Legal aspects of conformity assessment, procedures of type approval and verification of materialmeasures of length were discussed during the visit in Legal Metrology Service
Measuring instruments for length as three co-ordinate measuring machine with vision measuring system for non contact measurements, measuring set-up with HP interferometer for line scales calibration, STM microscope for nanometrology, ULM01-600D Universal Metroscope for plain cylinder plug and ring gauges calibration were also presented and discussed.
