Harmonisation of Audiometry Measurements within the EC
Project Description
The aim of this work was to test the consistency of standards for air-conduction audiometry using supra-aural earphones commonly used for audiometry within Europe and identify the cause of any anomalies possibly identifying ways of improving the design or method of use of the standard instruments employed.
The project was organised radially and each laboratory calibrated and use its own artificial ear system. Measurements were made at the eleven common audiometric test frequencies between 125 Hz and 8 kHz using two types of audiometric earphone (Telephonics TDH-49 and Holmco 95-01) using the IEC 318 artificial ear. Overall the results from this study were encouraging, with differences generally no greater in magnitude than ± 0.5 dB reported between partners at the common audiometric frequencies.
This work is described in EUROMET Project 363 - Harmonisation of Audiometry Measurements within Europe - Final Report. NPL Report CMAM 001, 1997, T R Sherwood and is also about to be submitted for publication in Metrologia.
Final Report
Project was completed and final report published in 1997.
