Key comparison of 50/60 Hz Electrical Power

Project Description

A key comparison of 50/60 Hz of power standards is currently being organised under the CCEM.
This EURAMET key comparison will take place just after the EURAMET loop of the CCEM comparison, this means after 24 January 2019.
VSL, PTB, NPL and LNE jointly coordinate the EURAMET comparison:

  • PTB and VSL: suppliers each of one travelling standard
  • PTB: reference measurements
  • LNE: management task, schedule organisation
  • VSL/NPL: analysis and reporting task

PTB will supply 2 reference standards of the type RADIAN RD-22.
Two parallel loops will be defined.

The technical protocol proposed is the same as for the CCEM comparison:

  • RMS voltage = 120 V and 240 V
  • RMS current = 5 A
  • Power factor = 1.0 ; 0,5 lead ; 0,5 lag ; 0 lead ; 0 lag
  • Frequency = 53 Hz (Total amount of testing points = 10)

Progress Report 2022-09-07

This comparison has been carried out with 22 participants in two parallel loops, with two travelling standards (RD22). PTB, who is in charge of the reference measurements, started the two loops in January 2019. Measurements for both loops were finished in December 2020 and January 2021, respectively. All participants provided their measurement results and report. Analysis of the results has been performed and an initial Draft A report was written and communicated to the participants early 2022. The travelling standards did not show any systematic drift and most of the laboratories were fully consistent with each other for all measurement points. However, the KCRV is to be defined by the related comparison CCEM-K5.2017, which unfortunately is not yet finished. Therefore, we cannot finalise our comparison and have to wait for the CCEM-K5.2017 results to make the formal link. The expectation is that this will happen next year.

Progress Report 2021-10-06

This comparison has been carried out with 23 participants in two parallel loops, with two travelling standards (RD22). PTB, who is in charge of the reference measurements, started the two loops in January 2019. The original plan was to finish measurements before summer 2020, but some customs issues, the corona lock-down in many countries and the inclusion of a new participant have caused a delay of about half a year. Measurements for both loops were finished by final reference measurement of PTB in December 2020 and January 2021, respectively. Most participants provided their measurement results and report; a few are still lacking despite several reminders. Analysis of the results is in progress; some abnormal results have been reported to the respective partners in line with the CIPM MRA-G-11, section 8.1. The intention is to finalise the analysis end of this year, even in case participants still did not provide the coordinator with their results.
Draft A is in progress.

Progress Report 2020-10-14

This comparison is carried out in two parallel loops, with two travelling standards (RD22). PTB, who is in charge of the reference measurements, started the two loops in January 2019. The original plan was to finish measurements before summer 2020, but some customs issues, the corona lock-down in many countries and the inclusion of a new participant (SE Ukrmetrteststandard) have caused a delay of about half a year. At present both loops are almost finished; the two standards are at the final two participants before PTB will perform the final reference measurement. The expectation is that measurements will be finished this year or early next year.

Progress Report 2019-10-01

This comparison is carried out in two parallel loops, with two travelling standards (RD22). PTB, who is in charge of the reference measurements, started the two loops in January 2019. Both loops are still on schedule, that is, the standards are at PTB again at mid-term. There are no issues so far.
