Key comparisons of luminous intensity and luminous flux

Project Description

a) At the PTB the move in the new building including the characterisation of the new measurement facilities takes longer than expected, thus the measurements for the two comparisons are delayed and will be divided in two campaigns:

General:
The technical protocol will be send out in July 2004

Intensity:
Transport of lamps to PTB and measurements end of 2004

Flux:
Transport of lamps to PTB and measurements end of 2005

b) No further progress. EUROMET-Key-Comparison of luminous intensity and luminous flux as part of the MRA and following the related guidelines. It is organised as a comparison of the value assigned by a participant to a transfer standard with that value based on the CCPR-Key-Comparison-Reference-Value (CCPR-KCRV). The values of the participants are determined on the basis of their units maintained with national standards and disseminated with their standard procedures, while the CCPR-KCRV is introduced by the pilot laboratory and two more laboratories for the link. Batches of about six specially designed incandescent lamps are used as transfer standard for each of the two quantities. It is an essential part in this comparison to add to each values of a quantity the associated measurement uncertainty presented with the detailed uncertainty budget following the rules as explained in the "Guide to the expression of measurement uncertainties",GUM.

Final Report 2016-02-05

The comparison has been completed and the results are available in the KCDB.

Luminous intensity EURAMET.PR-K3.a:
The review of Draft B of the EURAMET.PR-K3.a "Luminous intensity" from CCPR WG-KC was received in July 2013.  On 6. September 2013, the revised Draft B was sent together with remarks on the comments from CCPR WG-KC to EURAMET TCPR. Awaiting final appoval from BIPM and request for sending KC-abstract for publication.

Luminous flux EURAMET.PR-K4:
Predraft Draft A distributed in 12/2013, 9 replies, 2 missing (SP, CNAM). Draft A distributed in 2/2014, 8 replies, 3 missing (SP, CMI, CNAM). Distribution of Draft B is sceduled in 4/2014.

Progress Report 2014-02-14

The Draft A of the EURAMET-KC K3a  "Luminous intensity" was sent on 14th February 2013 as confidential report to the contact persons.

Luminous flux EURAMET-KC K4:
In calendar week 07/2013 PTB received the missing results of the last two participants. PTB will fill in these results in the data analysis sheets and send them back to these two participants for confirmation of these data. Then the analysis process will go on. The pre-draft A is expected not before July 2013.

Progress Report 2012-02-14

The luminous intensity measurements at all participant laboratories (first and second campaign) as well as the luminous intensity measurements of all luminous intensity lamps at PTB have been done. After the first campaign, every participant received the result of his set of lamps normalised to his own mean values to be able to identify outliers. The results of the measurements of the second campaign at the participant laboratory have been collected from all participants by PTB. All measurements have been analysed and the preliminary Draft A was sent out early March 2011. While, after some corrections, the measurement results of all participants are now proved to be correct, some needs for clarifications with respect to measurement uncertainty budgets were discussed with the participants. The final measurement uncertainty budget of one NMI is still missing. Despite of this, it is planned to publish Draft B of the comparison until end of May 2012.

The luminous flux lamps from all participant laboratories have been measured once at the participant laboratories and shipped to PTB. The measurements at PTB have been carried out using the robot-goniophotometer of PTB as well as the 2.5 meter integrating sphere of PTB. In the meantime, all the lamps have been sent back to the participants for return measurements. Only 6 of 11 participants sent their results of the return measurements back to PTB. After the analysis of the data is finished, every participant will receive the result of his set of lamps normalised to his own mean values, to identify outliers. PTB sent out a reminder to the missing laboratories in February 2012. After the analysis of the data is finished, every participant will receive the result of his set of lamps normalised to his own mean values, to identify outliers. Due to the delay, the pre-draft A is expected for August 2012 at the earliest.

Progress Report 2010-02-23

Key comparisons of luminous intensity EURAMET.PR-K3.a

  1. Measurement of luminous intensity lamps at the pilot laboratory and shipment back to the participant and link laboratory completed in May 2009.
  2. Second measurement at the participant and link laboratories completed in Sept. 2009.
  3. Final results of all participants and link laboratories were sent to the pilot laboratory until end of October 2009.
  4. Preliminary data analysis at the pilot laboratory early 2010

Key comparisons of luminous flux EURAMET.PR-K4

  1. Delivery of luminous flux lamps and the corresponding operating data until August 2009.
  2. Start of measurements at the pilot laboratory in September 2009.
  3. Shipment of some lamps back to the participants after early second measurement in November 2009.
  4. Unexpected delay of measurements at PTB due to problems with air conditioning until February 2010.

Due to the delay, the measurements of all luminous flux lamps will be completed at PTB not before end of April. The shipment of the lamps back to the participant laboratory is scheduled for April/May 2009.

Data analysis will be started as soon as the second measurement at the participant and link laboratory is completed.

The final draft report and any further publication is planned within half year after having received an agreed Draft A report.

Progress Report 2009-02-25

a. The technical protocol for both comparisons was sent out in February 2008. It was
departed into a organisational part and a comprehensive part dealing with the models
for the evaluation of values, uncertainties and degrees of equivalence. It was approved
by the WG KC of the CCPR in April 2008.

b. The schedule for Luminous Intensity:
Thansport of lamp transfer standards to the PTB and measurements begin 5/2008
Results and preliminary draft A end of 2009

c. The schedule for Luminous flux:
Transport of lamp transfer standards to the PTB and measurements begin 8/2008
Results and preliminary Draft A end of 2009

The luminous intensity measurements at all participant laboratories (first campaign) as well as the luminous intensity measurements of all luminous intensity lamps at PTB have been done. All measured lamps except the lamps of one participant have been collected by the participants and most of the measurements at the participant laboratories (second campaign) have been finished and the results have been sent to PTB.

The luminous flux lamps from eight to eleven participant laboratories, have been measured at the participants laboratories and shipped to PTB. The measurements at PTB will be carried out as soon as PTB received all participating lamps.

The final draft report and any further publication is planned within half year after having got an agreed Draft A report.

Progress Report 2007-03-06

The two comparisons for luminous intensity and luminous flux were planned to be processed in a single campaign to reduce the effort for organization and transportation. Due to delays in getting the facilities at the PTB ready for measurements after the move in the new optics building, two separate campaigns where already planned and the procedure was started at the begin of this year.

The two link laboratories agreed to operate within the general schedule.

All the NMIs, which stated their interest in this comparison in the past were contacted and will send back the first completed form sheet dealing with general information.

The technical protocols for both comparisons will be send out after having got all answers of the participants.

The schedule for Luminous Intensity:

  • Transport of lamp transfer standards to the PTB and measurements begin IV/2007
  • Results and preliminary draft A in II/2008

The schedule for Luminous flux:

  • Transport of lamp transfer standards to the PTB and measurements begin II/2008
  • Results and preliminary draft A in IV/2008

The final draft report and any further publication is planned within half year after having got an agreed Draft A report.
