Pilot study: Comparison for the realisation of the mass scale
Project Description
Study comparison for the realisation of the mass scale is organise as diagnostic comparison within EMPIR 19RPT02 Real Mass. The mass transfer standards are two sets of weights (for two petals):1 kg, 100 g, 20 g, 10 g,10 g*, 5 g, 2 g, 2 g*, 1 g and 1 g*.
IMBiH with input from INRIM and BEV will act as the pilot laboratory. CMI will be in charge of monitoring of stability of measurement standards.
Progress Report 2023-09-08
All measurements for Petal 1 and Petal 2 of the pilot study have been completed. CMI finished measurements for stability of the measurement standards by the end of August 2023. BEV collected all results from the participants. Rough results discussed at the RealMass project meeting. Evaluation of the results is in progress by BEV, IMBiH and INRIM.
Final Report 2024-09-10
The project has been completed and the report can be downloaded here>>
The final report was presented at the final meeting of the EMPIR RealMass project in December 2023 in Brno, Czech Republic.
The goal for several NMIs in this project to realise the mass scale with the 1/3 MPE of OIML Class E1 has been achieved. The expanded uncertainties were significantly small, up to 1/5 MPE of the OIML Class E1 for the whole calibration range. A further study was performed for the realisation of the 10 g to 1 g decade, with requested design.
It was the first comparison where the mass differences of the weighing design were compared. It has been shown that in most cases high residual values in the design matrix are a clear indicator of some anomaly affecting the results, which is why careful verification of residuals is essential. The outcomes of this Pilot Study serve for preliminary validation and further improvements of the CMCs of the NMIs, which will take part in a valid upcoming EURAMET key comparison.
