Radiometric calibration of French UV and VUV source standards

Project Description

PTB has developed in its radiomatry laboratories at the electron storage rings BESSY I and BESSY II, instrumentation to calibrate radiation standards from the visible to the VUV spectral range. Till the end of 1999 the spectral radiance scale is realised with the synchrotron radiation of the storage ring BESSY I operated as a primary source standard. The dissemination of the radiance scale in the UV and VUV spectral range is carried out by means of deuterium lamps as transfer radiation standards. PTB will continue this work at the elctron storage ring BESSY II. PTB will periodically calibrate deuterium lamp standard of BNM.

BNM has developed instrumentation to characterise detectors in the range of interest for non destructive control and characterisation of ultraviolet solaria (at 254 nm, 313 nm,365 nm, and 300 nm to 400 nm). Working lamp standards (hg, argon, and xenon) are used at these specific wavelengths. In order to improve the traceability and to extend the spectral range down to 180 nm, the calibration of a set of deuterium lamps as transfer standards is necessary. the spectral radiance of these lamps will be periodically calibrated from 180 nm to 400 nm traceable to an electron storage ring operated as a primary source standard by PTB.
