Realizing traceability by n(^13C)/n(^12C) measurements in CO_2 IDMS

Project Description

The aim of this project is to improve traceabilty to the SI of measurements in organic chemical analysis by carbon isotope dilution mass spectrometry.

Work at PTB:Development and validity of: separation of the analyte from the matrix after spiking; catasytic combustion to CO2; mass spectrometric determination of R = n(13C)/n(12C) with reference to carbon isotopic reference materials , of sample, spike and spiked sample.

Work at IRMM: Provision of the carbon isotopic reference materials with highest accuracy obtainable. Realizing traceability of the n(13C)/n(12C) ratio measurements in sample and reference materials to the measurement procedure used in the NA project.
