Spectral responsivity in the range from 900 nm to 1600 nm
Project Description
This project involves the extension of the CCPR key comparison CCPR.PR-K2a on spectral responsivity in the wavelength range from 900 nm to 1600 nm. The proposed transfer detectors used will be Germanium photodiodes instead of InGaAs. The pilot of this comparison will be VSL (NL). In this comparison VSL (NL) and NPL (UK) will act as link laboratories to KC CCR.PR-K2a.
This proposal replaces the existing planned bilateral comparisons EURAMET.PR.K2a.1 and EURAMET.PR.K2a.2
Final Report 2021-01-18
The comparison has been completed and results are available in the KCDB.
The Euramet.PR-K2.a comparison on spectral responsivity for the wavelength range 900 nm to 1600 nm was carried out to establish the degree of equivalence for the participating European laboratories with respect to the Key Comparison Reference Value (KCRV) of the CCPR-K2.a.2003 comparison. Seven laboratories, including pilot and link laboratory, participated. The comparison was piloted by VSL (Netherlands). Both VSL and NPL (UK) act as link laboratories to the CCPR-K2.a.2003 comparison.
Most laboratories show a DoE within 1 % from the CCPR KCRV for almost the full wavelength range, with some slightly larger differences mostly above 1450 nm. One laboratory shows larger deviations, up to 3%.
The final report provides an overview of the comparison, a description of the characterisation of the reference detectors, the data-analysis, participant results and their uncertainties and the degree of equivalence of participating laboratories with the CCPR KCRV. The full technical reports of the participants are included in the Appendix of the comparison report.
Progress Report 2020-01-23
The measurements for the Key Comparison EURAMET.PR-K2a have been finished by both the participants and the pilot laboratory. All the measurement results and measurement reports have been delivered to VSL. Data analysis has been set up by preparation a set of Python scripts. As part of the pre-draft A phase all participants have confirmed their measurement data (spring 2018). The pre-draft A report containing relative data and uncertainty budgets has been released in July 2018. In October 2018 all participants reviews have been received, after which most comments and questions raised were addressed by various participants. The Draft-A report has been issued to the participants in May 2019. Comments and textual updates were received, and discussions were held on the impact of weighting of link and pilot laboratory on the determination of the DoE of the participants. Based on the received updates, comments and discussions an update of the Draft A report was prepared, which was issued in January 2020 as Draft A2 version to the participants.
Progress Report 2019-01-21
The Key Comparison EURAMET.PR-K2a has finished all the participant measurements and measurements of the pilot between and after the participants. All the measurement results and measurement reports have been delivered to VSL by all the participants. All the detectors have been safely returned to the pilot. No damages have been observed. In 2015 extra measurements of temperature dependence of some of the detectors were performed by VSL. Additional temperature dependence measurements have been performed in 2017. Data analysis has been set up by preparation an extensive a set of Python scripts. As part of the pre-draft A phase all participants have confirmed their measurement data (spring 2018). The pre-draft A report containing relative data and uncertainty budgets has been released in July 2018. In October 2018 all participants reviews had been received, after which most comments and questions raised were addressed by various participants. The Draft-A report has largely been prepared, but the pilot and one of the participating laboratories still need to finalise a discussion on some issues related to the pre-draft A report, before Draft-A can be distributed.
Progress Report 2018-01-22
The Key Comparison EURAMET.PR-K2a has finished all the participant measurements and measurements of the pilot between and after the participants. All the measurement results and measurement reports have been delivered to VSL by all the participants. All the detectors have been safely returned to the pilot. No damages have been observed. In 2015 extra measurements of temperature dependence of some of the detectors were performed by VSL and analysis is still in progress. Additional temperature dependence measurements have been performed in 2017. Data analysis has been set up by preparation an extensive a set of
Python scripts. The pre-draft A report has partly been written, but has not yet been finished. Unfortunately, the VSL colleague who was in charge with the data analysis left VSL by the end of last year, leading to additional delay. Pre-draft A is now expected to be released in spring 2018.
Progress Report 2016-12-14
The Key Comparison EURAMET.PR-K2a has finished all the participant measurements and measurements of the pilot between and after the participants. All the detectors have been safely returned to the pilot. No damages have been observed.
In 2015 extra measurements of temperature dependence of some of the detectors were performed by VSL and analysis is still in progress.
Unfortunately, due to lack of time and shortage of personnel, VSL will not be able to deliver pre-draft A for review in the year 2016.
A new planning will be delivered to the participant in the beginning of year 2017.
Progress Report 2015-12-14
The Key Comparison EURAMET.PR-K2a has finished all the participant measurements and measurements of the pilot between and after the participants. All the detectors have been safely returned to the pilot. No damages have been observed.
All the measurement results and measurement reports have been delivered to VSL by all the participants by month March 2015.
In spring 2015 the pilot has performed extra measurements related to characterisation of the detectors for analysis, uncertainty budgets estimation and correction for the temperature due to observed strong dependency of the Ge detectors. Unfortunately, some extra measurements were required as some detectors seemed to have very different temperature dependency behaviour than the others. Instead of planned measurements in the temperature range between 20 and 27 degree of 3 Ge detectors, 6 have been measured to identify proper temperature corrections. Additionally, due to problems with some defices/facilities at VSL, the measurements have been postponed to fall 2015 and finished only in Nov 2015.
Next action: The new time planning will be distributed to the participants in Dec 2015. VSL will finalize analysis of all the measurement data, the characterisation data and prepare the predraft. A document in the first 6 months of 2016 which will be then distributed to the participants. Extra time is requested by the pilot between Dec 2015 and March 2016 due to extra data analysis mentioned but also maternity leave of the employee responsible for the Comparison at VSL.
Progress Report 2013-02-20
According to the planning shown in the previous yearly report (2011) the pilot has finished the measurements after two participants of Group 2.Unfortunately the third participant within the Group 2 has experienced some problems with the main facility. The problem was communicated to the pilot and Euramet TC-PR chair. After an agreement the participant has got extra time to fix the problem and to finish the measurements.After 6 months of delay the situation has not improved and this has been discussed within the pilot team at VSL and with the Euramet TC-PR chair.Due to very complex technical problem discovered and the status of the mentioned above participant (the linking laboratory to CCPR) it was decided to give the participant as much time as needed to finish the measurements withinthe Group 2.At the end of January 2013 the participant has successfully finished the measurements and transported the set of detectors back to the pilot laboratory VSL.The next following action: The pilot will make the measurements of all 3 sets of Ge detectors in March - April 2013 and will distribute the detectors to the Group 3 (GUM, METAS, UME). A new schedule is in progress and will be distributed to all participants in the first week of March.
Progress Report 2011-12-14
With the official start on February 21st, 2011 the Key Comparison EURAMET PR.-K2a has managed to follow the time table update in March quite well before a delay in August 2011. Group 1 (one participant SP) has finished the measurements and delivered the provisional detectors went smooth. VSL has performed the series of repeating measurements after the Group 1 with 2 weeks of a delay due to vacation period.
In the period between August - September 2011 three groups of detectors (9 in total) have been distributed to the participants of the Group 2 (JV, CMI, NPL). Unfortunately due to damage of one of the detectors during transport and some other issues (like a leave of the specialist involved in the Key) an extra delay of 2 months has been faced. Therefore, a new time table has been prepared and distributed to the participants in December 2011.
The status at this moment is as follows:
- 2 participants of Group 2 have finished the measurements and distributed the provisional results (JV and CMI);
- 1 participant (NPL) is busy with the measurements and will deliver the measurements with the provisional results not later than January 15, 2012;
- The pilot has finished the repeating measurements after participants JV and CMI.
The next following action: The pilot will make the measurements after last group of detectors in Jan- Feb 2012 and will distribute all 3 groups of detectors to the Group 3 (GUM, METAS, UME) in February 2012.
