Uncertainty in humidity measurements
Project Description
At the first meeting of the EUROMET Humidity Expert Group (Bern, 31 March 2003), it was agreed to organise a separate workshop on the estimation of uncertainty in humidity measurements. The workshop provides a forum for discussions on the methods to estimate and calculate the uncertainty in humidity calibrations of different types. The objectives of the workshop are:
- harmonisation of the methods in applying the GUM (Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement) principles in humidity calibrations
- share knowledge and experience in estimating uncertainty
The discussions will deal with uncertainty of the reference value and the influence of the instrument under calibration when using:
- dew-point generator as a primary standard
- relative humidity generator as a primary standard
- humidity generator with a secondary standard
- climatic chamber with a secondary standard
A summary of presentations and examples presented at the workshop will be published after the event. Also, recommendations agreed by the participants will be included in the publication. The workshop will be held in Dubrovnik on Monday 21 June 2004.
Final Report 2005-03-15
The EUROMET Workshop on Uncertainty in Humidity Measurements was successfully held in conjunction with the Tempmeko 2004 Conference in Cavtat, Croatia, 21 June 2004. The workshop provided a forum for discussions on the methods to estimate and calculate the uncertainty in humidity calibrations of different types. The objectives of the workshop were:
- harmonisation of the methods in applying the GUM (Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement) principles in humidity calibrations
- share knowledge and experience in estimating uncertainty
The Workshop Program included discussions and presentations on uncertainty estimation and calculation methods in general and when using:
- dew-point generator as a primary standard
- humidity generator with a secondary standard
Also, the effect of instruments (under calibration) was discussed. The presentations were given by S. Bell (NPL), J. Nielsen (NMi), J. Bojkovski (MIRS/FE-LMK), D. Hudoklin (MIRS/FE-LMK), G. Scholtz (PTB), V. Fernicola (IMGC) and A. Kentved (DELTA).
The workshop was attended by 41 experts from 21 countries throughout the world.
Slides presented at the workshop can be downloaded at the EUROMET THERM website (http://lmk.fe.uni-lj.si/euromet_t/). The Workshop Publication will be available in electronic format in 2005.
